Galactic Mandate Linux v02 Birthday Edition is now available. This compatibility release focuses on something fundamental: making the distro easier for real computers to see and boot from USB.
The Birthday Edition desktop remains intact. v02 includes the Galactic Mandate theme system, FUI apps, cockpit tools, OS13, alerts, hyperspace transitions, first-start tour, AI Tools, web apps, media tools, celebration effects, and the graphical installer introduced in v01.
A rebuilt boot-media foundation
The ISO now contains a conventional hybrid MBR and GPT layout, separate legacy BIOS and UEFI boot entries, a real 64 MiB FAT32 EFI System Partition, the standard removable-media EFI path, and Ubuntu’s signed shim, GRUB, and kernel chain. This addresses reports from computers or USB writers that did not recognize earlier images.
The exact release ISO was audited and booted read-only as a virtual USB device under both legacy BIOS and UEFI.

Upgrade from v.99, v00, or v01
Installed systems can upgrade directly:
curl --proto '=https' --tlsv1.2 -fsSL https://mr-richardson.com/gmlinux/apt/gm-upgrade -o /tmp/gm-upgrade sudo install -m 0755 /tmp/gm-upgrade /usr/local/sbin/gm-upgrade sudo gm-upgrade v02
An installed-system upgrade does not rewrite an older ISO or USB drive. If old media does not appear in a boot menu, download v02 and recreate the media from the new image.
